Two Lubbock County Sheriff's Deputies were involved in an incident on Southbound Hwy 87 and the 98th Street overpass. The deputies were outside of their parked patrol units, assisting a stranded motorist, when a semi-truck collided with the empty rear patrol unit. The deputies were trapped between the disabled patrol unit and the guardrail of the 98th Street overpass. Good Samaritans at a nearby gas station witnessed the event and quickly moved to aid the deputies.

Deputy Martinez and Deputy Cavazos have both been discharged from the hospital and are resting at home with their families. We would like to share the following statements:
