Collection: Officer Langley Dean

June 12, 2025, Officer Langley Dean— a 19-year veteran of the Hagerstown Police Department and dedicated K9 handler—was critically injured in the line of duty while responding to a domestic violence call in Hagerstown’s North End.

Officer Dean was shot at close range with a 20-gauge shotgun, sustaining serious injuries to his arm, shoulder, face, and head. He underwent emergency surgery at Meritus Medical Center and remains hospitalized in stable condition, surrounded by his loved ones and fellow officers.

Throughout his nearly two-decade career, Officer Dean has exemplified courage, professionalism, and selfless service. He has been credited with saving at least four lives. He is set to receive the Hero Award at the upcoming Washington County Public Safety Awards for saving the life of a juvenile assault victim in June 2024.
